“This is not like your normal children’s CD. The sophisticated music covers a wide range of genres you find in the adult market.”—Stories for Children Magazine’s blog
“A wonderful, beautifully produced project. . . . I’m impressed with the excellent kid singers, arrangements, songs, and production. . . . (Dr. Mac), has done that VERY challenging thing of giving positive messages in a non-preachy way—that’s no easy job.” —Cathy Fink, 2003 and 2004 Children’s Music Grammy® winner
PreS-Gr 4-A group of preteens and adults perform a dozen original, upbeat songs on each CD. Dr. Mac (Don R. McMannis), the songwriter/producer, is a child psychologist and teacher. The album addresses the social and emotional needs of youngsters, such as coping with feelings, making friends, diversity, honesty, and self-esteem. Both the music and the lyrics are kid-friendly; the beat inspires movement. Varied musical styles lend additional interest to the recording, as do the extensive reproducible pages and activities included in the workbook. Useful for lower elementary teachers working to reinforce children's social skills. A must-have for elementary school guidance counselors.—School Library Journal
