Accept and Value Each Person
Cheri J. Meiners, M.Ed.
Accept and Value Each Person

The world is becoming more diverse, and so are the daily lives of our children.

Accepting and valuing people and groups who are different from oneself and one's immediate family are critical social skills. This book introduces diversity and related character education concepts: respecting differences, being inclusive, and appreciating people just the way they are. Includes questions, activities, and games that reinforce the ideas being taught.

"Johnson has created convincing illustrations that are truthful right down to the creases in the smiles and the rose color in the children's cheeks." —noirbaby.com

In the Real World

Using the Free Spirit Learning to Get Along® series

A Minnesota educator writes, "Before I started teaching I worked in the St. Cloud area as an after-school program manager. One of the districts had a grant to work with children with special needs, and one particular school had a high number of behavior issues. The school kept a library of Free Spirit books children could read when they got into trouble or needed downtime. This was part of the discipline process—the focus was on helping kids understand what respect means. I would read a book with the child and we would talk about how it feels to be hurt or picked on. The children responded to the needed quiet time and one-on-one attention."
