Every day, more and more teens are volunteering to make a difference in their communities and the world. This tool will help them by providing social action ideas. Based on the acclaimed Teen Guide to Global Action by Barbara A. Lewis, this card deck features hands-on social action and global service opportunities young people can engage in to effect social change.
Cards are divided into seven areas of social action:
- Human Rights
- Hunger and Homelessness
- Health and Safety
- Education
- Environment and Conservation
- Youth Representation
- Peace and Friendship
Each card features a “Keep It Local” suggestion on one side and a “Take It Global” idea on the other side, for a total of 120 local and global service opportunities. For those who may not be sure where they want to make a difference, the cards can be used as discussion or reflection prompts to encourage teens to think about social change issues that are important to them.
Web addresses on the cards point the way to internet resources where young people can learn more about issues, connect with other teens, and get engaged in social action online. A foldout insert with directions and suggestions for using the cards is included. This compact and versatile tool will stimulate thought, talk, and action for teens in classrooms, small groups, and guidance settings.
