One in five K–12 students has a diagnosable mental health disorder. An additional five percent are classified as learning disabled. Most of these students are taught in regular classrooms, yet most teachers have little training in recognizing, understanding, and teaching these students.

Dr. Cooley describes various mental health and learning disorders, clarifies misunderstandings, and explains new or revised diagnoses. 1 in 5 students has a mental health disorder. Students with ADHD have difficulty learning. We as teachers need to be trained to deal with students with ADHD. We need to have effective classroom management. I learned that there were 3 types of ADHD: Hyperactive-impulsive, inattentive, and combined. Also how ADHD can impact behavior and academics.

This webinar was one of the best I have attended. It highlighted the different aspects of learning disorders and how to identify and address them. It was so important to hear the mental health issues that go along with LDs so often. I give the webinar 4 stars, not for what was presented, but only because there wasn’t time to go into more of the practical ideas and get more questions answered.
