ABC Ready for School

An Alphabet of Social Skills

C is for cooperate. G is for grow. P is for play! This award-winning alphabet book helps young children (and those who care for them) consider, explore, and discuss a wide range of skills related to school readiness. Kids preparing for kindergarten or preK will learn social skills from A to Z, building or reinforcing their knowledge of the alphabet at the same time. Charming art brings the skills to life with encouraging scenes of fun and learning in the classroom, on the playground, and more. A special section for adults presents ideas for helping children get ready for this big change and have a successful start to school.

18 Fun Ways to Get Ready for Kindergarten

In many ways, kindergarten is the most important year in a child’s education. It is not only an exciting and challenging milestone for your child and you, but it sets the stage for how kids will view themselves as students and how they will view learning in general. So, it’s important for them to begin their first school year as prepared as possible.

Here are some fun ways to help get that young learner ready. Pick one or two skills to work on each week, and keep practicing until your child has mastered the skill. Review it every so often for reinforcement. All these skills will be needed in kindergarten, but don’t worry if they are not perfected before the first day of school arrives—kids will keep working on these skills with their teachers and classmates.

Kindergarten readiness

This is a great book for childcare providers to read to their children for kindergarten readiness. This book would be a great resource for parent aware providers to use as a kindergarten transition activity. Or to connect learning at home by giving all the families a turn to take this book home and read it to their children. This book goes over a lot more than just being able to stand in a line and being able to balance their meal tray to their table. I really like the fact that they talk about being your best, help others, keep trying, be your self, and have fun!
