Support and Advocate for Gifted Learners with Free Spirit’s Trusted Resources

“If you are a gifted kid; a gifted kid’s mom or dad, teacher or counselor; or if you even speak with a gifted kid occasionally—do yourself a big favor and read this book.”Gifted Education Communicator

First published in 1984, The Gifted Kids’ Survival Guide: For Ages 10 & Under by Judy Galbraith, M.A., has become the classic introduction to growing up gifted. This revised and updated third edition includes quizzes, tips, and quotes along with information on brain development and education, expectations, and friendships. With a fresh new look, and based on 1,000 recent surveys of gifted kids, it speaks directly to all gifted boys and girls.

“With this one book alone, you could revamp a whole school system, one school at a time.”Gifted Education Communicator

While teachers understandably focus on reaching and teaching struggling students, are some students being overlooked or underserved? Teachers need to motivate and challenge gifted learners while ensuring that students at all levels in their classroom reach their potential. The solution is the Schoolwide Cluster Grouping Model (SCGM). The Cluster Grouping Handbook book with CD-ROM by Susan Winebrenner, M.S., and Dina Brulles, Ph.D., will help all teachers and administrators establish and implement this effective gifted-education model into the schoolwide curriculum. It offers a wealth of teacher-tested classroom strategies for differentiating the curriculum along with detailed information on identifying students for clusters, gaining support from parents, and providing ongoing professional development for educators.

“Enlightening as well as hopeful.”Youthworker

All parents of a gifted child have questions about what giftedness means, how to ensure their child is learning, and how to cope with their child’s unique challenges. Free Spirit’s perennially popular The Survival Guide for Parents of Gifted Kids (Revised and Updated Edition) by Sally Yahnke Walker, Ph.D., is the go-to guide for parents for answers to these perplexing questions and many more—including how to advocate for their child, how to prevent perfectionism, and when to get help.

Advisory Board Members Wanted

Free Spirit seeks grades preK–12 teachers, administrators, librarians, counselors, and social workers to join its advisory board. In order to make our books and other products even more beneficial for children and teens, the advisory board will provide valuable feedback on things like content, text, and art and help us identify what educators need to support the kids they serve.

Free Spirit also seeks young people, grades 6 and up, to join its teen advisory council. In order to keep our books and other products current and relevant, the advisory council provides valuable feedback on such things as the design, art, and content of our resources for young people.
