Warehouse Assistant


We seek a part-time warehouse assistant for 20–25 hours a week, M–F between 8 am and 5 pm. Hours are flexible but you must be able to work Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This person will need to be task-oriented and a team player with a get-it-done attitude. The warehouse assistant will be constantly on the go, performing a variety of tasks to assist in our warehouse and help our operations run smoothly.

Job responsibilities include:
  • Picking and staging orders
  • Shipping and receiving merchandise and supplies
  • Assembling our jar products
  • Collating and shrink-wrapping poster and book sets
  • Restocking books
  • Performing light maintenance duties for the building and grounds

Job requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to count accurately
  • Ability to work Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs frequently
  • Ability to use an electric pallet jack
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Neat and organized worker

Our ideal candidate must be a communicative, detail-oriented, independent worker and able to solve problems.

Free Spirit Internship Program

Free Spirit Publishing is the leading publisher of learning tools that support young people’s social-emotional health and educational needs. We help children and teens think for themselves, succeed in life, and make a difference in the world. Our publishing house is located in the North Loop Warehouse district in Minneapolis. We publish twenty to twenty-five books annually in the categories of Early Childhood, Bullying & Conflict Resolution, Gifted Education, Character Education & Service Learning, and Teacher Resources & Professional Development.

Free Spirit offers 2 nonpaid focused internships per season:
•    Editorial Internship
•    Sales/Marketing Internship

An internship at Free Spirit will introduce you to all aspects of a small business and educational publishing. It will provide you with the opportunity to work directly with the owner of the company, department directors, and key staff. The Free Spirit internship will give you skills that can transfer to larger publishing houses and careers outside of publishing.

Internship hours are flexible, averaging 15–20 hours per week for a total of approximately 200 hours. At the completion of the internship, interns receive a small stipend. CEU credits may be obtained through the internship.

PUBLISHING INTERNSHIP
Title: Editorial Assistant


Position Summary
This publishing internship focuses on editorial work in an entrepreneurial environment and exposes the intern to a range of other areas of publishing at Free Spirit: production, design, marketing, publicity, and sales.

Intern Responsibilities:
•    Read and evaluate submitted proposals
•    Research projects related to acquisitions, editorial, including research of competitive products
•    Send submissions correspondence
•    Administer and compile Advisory Board surveys and correspondence
•    Fact check manuscripts
•    Proofread
•    Participate in editorial, design, and sales/marketing meetings
•    Write product descriptions, website copy, and general correspondence
•    Perform database upkeep
•    Work on special projects
•    Assist members of editorial staff and entire company as needed
•    File, photocopy, and perform other assorted administrative duties
•    Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
•    Junior or senior enrolled in a B.A. program or recent graduate with a B.A. in English, journalism, education, liberal arts, or related field
•    Excellent writing, communication, organization, and time-management skills
•    Strong computer skills, with experience in Microsoft Word and Excel
•    Ability to act professionally in a professional environment

PUBLISHING INTERNSHIP
Title: Sales/Marketing Assistant


Position Summary
This publishing internship focuses on sales and marketing work in an entrepreneurial environment and exposes the intern to a range of other areas of publishing at Free Spirit: editorial, production, and design.

Intern Responsibilities:
•    Prepare, assemble, pack, and disseminate mailings of new title samples
•    Prepare, print, and assemble sales kits for trade accounts
•    Prepare, assemble, pack, and disseminate catalog mailings
•    Research projects for sales and marketing team
•    Assist in the preparation of marketing plans, advertising pieces, and other events as needed
•    Assist Publicist and Marketing Specialist with social media presence
•    Participate in sales/marketing meetings
•    Write website copy and general correspondence as requested
•    Perform database upkeep for customer databases and online sales tools
•    Work on special projects
•    Assist members of sales and marketing staff and entire company as needed
•    File, photocopy, and perform other assorted administrative duties
•    Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
•    Junior or senior enrolled in a B.A. program or recent graduate with a B.A. in marketing, business, English, journalism, education, liberal arts, or related field
•    Excellent writing, communication, organization, and time-management skills
